August 30, 2008, Myrtle Beach, S.C. Signature Golf Group announced the opening of Rose Hill Golf Club in Hilton Head, SC. The golf course was purchased by the Rose Hill POA in 2007 and Signature Golf Group was selected to renovate the course and manage its day-to-day operations.

Steve Taylor, President of Signature Golf Group announced that Bill Bernschein has joined Woodland Valley Country Club as the Head Golf Professional. In making the announcement Taylor pointed out “We are pleased to have Bill join our team at Woodland Valley. Bill’s experience in the golf business and golf packaging here in the Myrtle Beach market are just what we were looking for.  Woodland Valley Country Club is an 18 hole Russell Breeden design located in Loris, SC. Loris is part of the Myrtle Beach golf market. Belvedere Country Club is an 18-hole facility just outside of Topsail Beach, N.C.  It was designed by Russell Breeden and opened for play in 1972. The course has a unique blend of holes with 6 par threes, 6 par four’s and 6 par fives.  Signature has installed an new point of sale system and is overseeing a reopening of the Caddyshack Grill located on the second level of the clubhouse. A large deck overlooking the putting green and driving range was completed earlier.

June 20, 2007, Myrtle Beach, S.C. — Signature Golf Group is proud to announce the promotion of David S. Downing II, CGCS to its Corporate Management Staff.

Dave will serve the company as the Vice President of Operations and Construction. Dave has been involved in every aspect of golf course management and development during his distinguished career.

Dave is a Graduate of the Penn State University Turf Grass Management Program. Downing spent 11 years as the Golf Course Superintendent at four courses (notably the TPC of Connecticut and the Las Vegas Country Club). From 1990 to 1998 Downing acted as Director of Golf Course Operations for Wild Wing Plantation where he was involved with development, construction, grow-in and start up of the 72 hole faciltiy. From 1998 – 2002 Downing acted as Director of Golf Course Operations for Barefoot Resort & Golf. Downing led construction of the four world renowned courses (Love, Dye, Fazio & Norman) and became the first 72-hole facility to open all four courses the same day. During Downing’s four years at Barefoot Resort; he oversaw Tournament Operations of six Canadian Tour events televised on the Golf Chanel. Downing owned and operated his own consulting business from 1994 – 2003 consulted part-time on golf course management of 13 facilities in four states. Downing spent 18 months as Senior VP of Golf Operations with a management company in Pinehurst, NC then another 18 months as Director of Golf Operations at the Pearl Resort and Golf. Prior to his promotion Downing worked as the Golf Course Superintendent of Rivers Edge Golf Club an Arnold Palmer Signature Course ranked 62nd in “Best 100 Public Golf Courses in America” by Golf Digest. River’s Edge Golf Club is a Signature Golf Group managed facility.

Downing has earned many honors and awards including: 1993 “Best of the South” Award for “Course Conditioning and Presentation” for the Wood Stork Course at Wild Wing, 1995 GCSAA Environmental Steward – Merit Award and the 1997 Bayer Carolina’s CPC Award. Dave has been involved in the golf industry throughout his career. He currently serves the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America as the Vice President. Last year he served at the Secretary / Treasurer and for the 4 years prior was a director. He is a past president of the Carolinas Chapter of the GCSAA, a member of the USGA Greens Section Committee, and a director on the Environmental Institute for Golf. He has served Horry Georgetown Technical College as a member of their advisory council as well as two Dacum committees.
